SODS
Save Our Dispensing Surgeries.
Patients of the Leuchars and Balmullo medical practice have formed a small Forum who will seek to take all steps necessary to ensure that the excellent surgery dispensing service they now receive is not brought to an unwelcome end by the establishment of a commercial pharmacy in Leuchars
The Forum called ‘SODS’ was set up in September,2009 primarily to campaign on behalf of Leuchars and Balmullo patients who did not want to lose dispensing services and almost certainly other medical provision which would be ended by FIFE NHS if a local pharmacy was opened. A secondary aim of ‘SODS’ is to help bring pressure on the Scottish Government’s Care and Community Health Division to introduce a much revised and more democratic version of the Pharmacy (Scotland) Regulations 1995. The latter are under review but currently fail to prescribe best practice such as planning consent regarding public and disabled access and internal layout.
.
The ‘Sods’ Forum intends to publish on this website a list of objectives towards achieving its aims. The Forum will encourage other patients in dispensing surgeries at risk throughout Scotland and the UK to join in protest at the unfair, undemocratic and generally insufficiently prescribed nature of the Pharmacy Regulations. ’Sods’ will seek to ensure that when these are redrafted they meet all aspects of democratic choice as required in the introduction of the NHS Duty of Care Reform (Scotland) Act, 2004.
The Forum will also seek to bring about changes in the powers of Area Health Boards so that decisions by their Pharmacy Practice Committees made without fair and open discussion as well as full representation by all interested parties, may be legally challenged in a Court of Law.
